“Travel is about more than just where you go, but who you become along the way.”
Welcome to Intermezzo Adventures
Intermezzo Adventures isn’t a site about bucket lists, bravado, or travelling faster or further than everyone else.
It’s about understanding travel — and reclaiming the confidence to enjoy it in the second half of life.
Many women come back to travel after a long pause: retirement, loss, change, or years of putting other people first. The curiosity is still there — but the practical knowledge, confidence, or sense of where to start may feel rusty.
That’s where this site comes in.
Intermezzo Adventures focuses less on where to go and more on how travel actually works: planning, logistics, mindset, and the small decisions that make travel feel manageable rather than overwhelming.

About Deborah
I’m Deborah — a writer, musician, artist, teacher, and independent traveller.
My background is in the creative and performing arts, including many years playing in orchestra pits for opera and ballet. That life involved constant travel, long journeys, unfamiliar places, and learning how to function well while travelling — often without much glamour.
Travel has always been part of my inner life, too. Long before I travelled myself, it arrived via postcards from my father, books I devoured as a child, and a steady sense that there was a bigger world waiting.
I didn’t travel widely until adulthood. And I didn’t begin travelling independently until later still. Which means I understand both the desire and the hesitation.
Intermezzo Adventures grew from that place: a belief that travel doesn’t have an expiration date, and that confidence grows from understanding — not bravado.

The Meaning of “Intermezzo”
In music, an intermezzo is a pause between larger movements — a moment to breathe, recalibrate, and prepare for what comes next.
That’s how I think about travel at this stage of life.
- Not an escape.
- Not a performance.
- But a deliberate pause — chosen, shaped, and enjoyed on your own terms (and on any budget).
If you’re curious about travelling (again, or for the first time), ready to learn, and keen to do things your own way, you’re in the right place.
So, grab a cuppa (or glass of wine), settle in, and let’s explore the world together. Because no matter your age, there’s always more to see, learn, and experience.
